Planning a Paris Needlepoint Retreat: Stitching Through the City of Light.
If you love needlepoint, Paris may be the most inspiring place in the world to stitch.
Over the past several weeks I’ve been deep in research and planning for a very special experience: the Paris Needlepoint Retreat for North Myrtle Beach Needlepoint, taking place September 27 – October 3, 2027. The goal is simple but exciting — to create an unforgettable needlepoint travel experience in Paris designed specifically for stitchers.
But designing a Paris needlepoint retreat itinerary is a lot more involved than simply booking a hotel and visiting a museum. Every moment needs to combine three things:
Inspiration for needlepoint
Authentic Paris experiences
Memorable moments for small-group travelers
So let me take you behind the scenes of how a Paris stitching retreat comes together.
Why Paris Is Perfect for Needlepoint Lovers
Paris has inspired artists, designers, and craftspeople for centuries. Walk through the city and you’ll see it everywhere — the ornate iron balconies, intricate architectural details, decorative textiles, tapestries, and color palettes that feel like they came straight from a canvas.
For needlepoint enthusiasts, Paris is practically a living design book.
Some of the places we’re building into our retreat include:
Historic tapestry workshops
Parisian needlepoint shops
Decorative arts museums
Artistic neighborhoods filled with creative energy
And of course, plenty of time to sit, stitch, and soak in the atmosphere of Paris.
Researching the Best Needlepoint Shops in Paris
One of the highlights of the retreat will be visiting Annie Bouquet Needlepoint, one of the most respected needlepoint studios in Paris.
Annie has been designing hand-painted canvases inspired by French decorative arts for over 40 years. Her work draws inspiration from centuries of French history — from medieval motifs to Art Deco elegance.
During the retreat we’ll have a private visit arranged exclusively for our group, where stitchers can:
Learn about Annie’s creative process
Explore her Paris-inspired canvases
Shop for a one-of-a-kind needlepoint project to bring home
Finding experiences like this is one of the most rewarding parts of planning a needlepoint tour in Paris.
The Joy of Stitching in Iconic Paris Locations
Needlepoint retreats shouldn’t just be about sightseeing — they should also create opportunities to actually stitch in beautiful places. One of the most magical experiences we’re planning will take place in Montmartre, the historic artist district of Paris. Montmartre has inspired painters like Picasso, Renoir, and Van Gogh, and today artists still gather in the charming square Place du Tertre.
Imagine this moment: You’re sitting in a café chair in Montmartre, your needlepoint canvas in hand, surrounded by artists painting the Paris skyline. It’s the kind of memory that defines a creative retreat in Paris.
Another experience we’re planning is something I’ve never seen offered on any other tour: A private “Sail and Stitch” experience on the Seine River. Our group will board a private boat and gently cruise through the heart of Paris while enjoying views of:
Notre Dame Cathedral
The Louvre
Musée d’Orsay
The Eiffel Tower
And yes — guests are welcome to stitch while enjoying the ride.
Few experiences combine needlepoint, travel, and Paris scenery quite like this:
Exploring the Historic Textile Traditions of France. France has one of the richest textile traditions in the world, which is why we’re including a visit to the Manufacture des Gobelins, the famous tapestry workshop founded in the 1600s. For centuries, this workshop has produced some of the most extraordinary tapestries ever created — many commissioned by French royalty.
During our private visit, stitchers will see:
Traditional weaving techniques
Historic tapestry designs
The artistry behind large-scale textile production
For anyone passionate about fiber arts, this is a truly inspiring experience.
Discovering Hidden Paris While Planning Tours
While researching the retreat, I’ve also been exploring Hidden Paris — the quiet corners and lesser-known places that most visitors never see.
These hidden discoveries help make a tour feel personal and memorable.
Some of my research has included:
Historic covered passages
Secret gardens and courtyards
Neighborhood markets
Local cafés where Parisians gather
These places often become the unexpected highlights of a trip.
Finding American Connections in Paris
Another fascinating part of planning tours is discovering the American stories hidden throughout Paris. Many visitors are surprised to learn how deeply American history is connected to the city. Some examples include:
Sites connected to *Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson**
Locations tied to *American writers of the Lost Generation**
Monuments honoring *American soldiers from World War I and World War II**
Including a few of these American connection moments can create powerful storytelling opportunities during tours.
Designing Small Group Travel Experiences
One thing that makes this retreat special is its size.
We’re limiting the Paris Needlepoint Retreat to just 10 guests.
Small group travel allows us to:
Visit specialty shops
Enjoy private tours
Move easily through Paris neighborhoods
Create a relaxed, social atmosphere for stitchers
It also allows time for something many travelers appreciate: unstructured moments to explore, shop, and stitch.
The Goal: A Needlepoint Experience You’ll Never Forget
Planning a needlepoint retreat in Paris has been an incredible journey of research, creativity, and discovery. The goal isn’t simply to see Paris. It’s to experience it through the lens of creativity, design, and craftsmanship.
To stitch where artists once painted.
To discover the decorative details that inspire canvas designs.
And to share those experiences with fellow stitchers who appreciate the art form as much as you do.
If you’re passionate about needlepoint travel, creative retreats, and exploring Paris in a unique way, this retreat may be one of the most memorable stitching experiences imaginable.
More details about the Paris Needlepoint Retreat itinerary will be announced soon.
Until then, I’ll keep exploring, researching, and uncovering the moments that will make this travel worth taking.
